Because Peanut had what we thought were seizures at the time, we are on a different vaccine schedule than most. I was forced to enter the worldly debate of whether or not to vaccinate early on. There is a bewildering amount of information online--but as always, you have to take that information with a grain of salt. It's hard to determine where the knowledge comes from on some of these anti and pro vaccine sites.
Finally! There is now a wonderful book by Dr. Sears that presents both sides of the story and assumes that-gasp!-you are actually intelligent enough to make your own decisions regarding your child's health. The book is called, simply The Vaccine Book:Making the Right Decision for Your Child.
I've really struggled with this and as I'm reading the book I feel much more comfortable about our decision to delay and pass on some of the vaccines--especially given our family history of seizures. And the fact that Peanut is breastfed and stays at home is a huge factor which allows us this luxury.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with a child. It really is important to inform yourself with knowledge when it comes to yours and your child's health. You can't blindly trust the medical community for everything. Don't get me wrong--I have great respect for doctors, nurses, etc. but they are not infallible. Human beings make mistakes and NOBODY knows your child like you do.
